Vortrag
„Climate crisis as a crisis of patriarchy and capitalism in Kurdistan“ (in English)
with Menekşe Kızıldere
Im Rahmen der Ausstellung „Klimabewegung: Ursprünge, Höhepunkte, Perspektiven“
30.10. | 19 Uhr | Nauklerstraße 50
In the context of Kurdistan, ecological degradation, displacement, destruction of agricultural lands, and water scarcity are intensified by mega-projects like dams, mining, and infrastructural development—often orchestrated by centralized states or corporate interests. Moreover, rural and indigenous women in Kurdistan face the brunt of ecological harm: their roles in sustaining local food systems, water management, and community resilience render them disproportionately vulnerable.
As a counter-vision, Menekşe Kızıldere will present Democratic Modernity as a holistic framework for ecological, social, and gender justice. This paradigm seeks to replace top-down, profit-driven, hierarchical power with decentralized democracy, ecological balance, and gender equality. In Kurdistan, one striking expression of this vision is the best ecological action, where communities reclaim the right to land, water, and local self-management through grassroots ecological resistance. In such practices, decision-making is rooted in local assemblies, ecological wisdom is respected, and the gendered dimensions of environmental struggle are centered—offering a living example of how climate justice, feminism, and democracy can converge in action.
